Gold-Filled/Rose Gold-Filled: Gold-filled, and Rose Gold-filled, jewelry consists of a solid layer of gold bonded to a base metal like brass. It is waterproof and does not oxidize or corrode easily. Although less expensive than solid gold, gold-filled jewelry is more durable and can last years with minimal care.

There may be circumstances where you notice your skin has some brown color underneath where your chain is. This is metal abrasion. It occurs when the chain is not cleaned after sports or where there is dirt and grim attach the the chain. This causes small pieces of the metal to break off into a dust. Due to our skins absorbent properties, it attaches to the skin and creates a dark brown smudge appearance. It will happen more likely on sunny summer days when you have an anklet, as this area is less likely to get cleaned well after activities and has frequent movement. It may only happen once and never again.

BEST Solution: washing after sports and the beach. Washing and polishing once a week, or more if you are using lotions or harsh chemicals frequently

Sterling Silver: Sterling silver is a high-quality choice known for its longevity. With proper care, sterling silver jewelry will remain beautiful indefinitely. Use a sterling silver cleaner to remove oxidation if needed.

Sterling silver will eventually tarnish as this is the nature of the metal. This is related to the environment and how the silver is cared for, remember the box of old silver spoons all tarnished from not being polished? Normally, this happens slowly over time, however it can happen quickly under certain circumstances.

Tarnish is a natural reaction that occurs when silver comes into contact with oxygen and certain chemicals. This could simply be from your water at home (well water especially), but often from pools, hot tubs, cleaning materials and tanning. Prolonged exposure to certain dyes used in leather and fabric will accelerate the tarnish. This can also occur with certain creams, soaps and perfumes, or even the wearer’s pH and the amount they may sweat. The silver chemically reacts, turning slightly darker or duller - giving it a tarnished appearance. However, it is superficial and can be polished and cleaned.

Care for Your Permanent Jewelry:

Clean welded jewelry and charms with warm water, a gentle toothbrush, and mild dish soap. This is included in your care bag. Use jewelry polishing cloths to restore shine. Avoid contact with perfumes, makeup, hairspray, lotion, and other chemicals to prevent tarnishing.

Chains can stretch overtime. This will be more common on the ankle where the joint has a lot of movement. We offer a free welding for all Juliet & Emma chains. However, if the chain is compromised a new chain will have to be purchased a the expense of the client.
